Lift Pump Replacement Services in McHenry & Lake County, IL

A lift pump is an important piece of equipment in your septic system. If your property has a septic field at a higher elevation than your septic tank, your lift pump keeps wastewater moving through your tank and into the field, preventing it from lingering in the tank and flowing back up through your sewer line. Unfortunately, wear and damage can accumulate over time, prompting the need for a septic tank pump replacement.

When your lift pump can no longer do its job, trust Tidy Tank Plumbing, Sewer, and Septic to provide a septic pump replacement in McHenry County, Lake County, IL, or the surrounding areas. We’ll replace the component with a reliable and efficient new model.

As a trusted company that’s been in the business for many decades, we pride ourselves on delivering top-quality solutions. We can supply you with a dependable replacement lift pump for your septic system. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you!

Common Septic Lift Pump Problems

Septic lift pumps aren’t immune to issues. One common problem homeowners face is pump failure due to clogs or blockages. This can happen if foreign objects or too much solid waste make their way into the pump. When this happens, your septic system can back up, causing unpleasant odors and even potential health hazards.

Another issue is electrical failures. Since septic lift pumps rely on power to function, any electrical malfunction can stop the pump from working. This could be due to a tripped breaker, faulty wiring, or even a failed motor. Keeping an eye on these potential problems can help you avoid larger, more costly issues down the line.

Signs You Need a New Septic Pump

It’s important to know when to replace your septic pump. One major sign is frequent pump failures. If you find yourself constantly repairing your lift pump, it might be more cost-effective to replace it altogether. Repeated issues often indicate that the pump is nearing the end of its lifespan.

Another telltale sign is unusual noises. If your pump starts making grinding or screeching sounds, it’s a red flag that something is wrong internally. These noises can mean that parts are wearing out, and it’s time to consider a replacement to avoid a complete breakdown.

Have used them for several years to maintain and inspect my septic system. However, we were recently having issues and had a wet spot in the yard so called them out to get a quote for the repair. The guy came out and sold my wife the "fix". I asked over the phone three times if he was sure, and what happens if we get down there and they find more, he assured us that we needed jetting and we're good. Well the guy and cane out the next day was not happy, after actually looking (found out the previous guys, didn't run cameras or look at anything) we needed more extensive repairs, however we still needed to pay over $2k for the unnecessary maintenance and now have to pay another $6k plus for the actual fix. Spoke with the manager and said we should not have had this experience, he would speak to owner and get back to us the next day. Three weeks later and nothing. They do not set proper expectations, say whatever they need to charge extra, then just ghost you after years of working with them. Go with another company.

I’m updating my review and rating to 4 stars.

I appreciate that the company reached out the same day I posted my review. I shared my concerns, and to their credit, they listened without getting defensive. They acknowledged the issue, said they’d review it internally, and refunded part of my payment.

While the original experience was inconvenient, their response showed accountability, professionalism, and respect for the relationship. The adjustment made the final cost feel fair, and their follow through changed my perspective.

I value companies that know how to recover when something doesn’t go perfectly. Based on how they handled it, I’d be open to working with them again.

I contacted Tidy Tank during a septic emergency because they were one of the only companies available. Over the phone, I was quoted $189 plus a small additional fee by the dispatcher. Once the technician arrived, the price presented was $880, which was a significant difference from what was discussed.

For context, the septic had been pumped approximately 3 months earlier, the property is barely used, and the actual amount pumped was minimal (see the pics they provided me). After I questioned the pricing, the bill was reduced to $568 within minutes. While I appreciated the adjustment, the large difference between the initial phone quote, the on site quote, and the final invoice raised serious concerns about pricing consistency.

The technician himself was professional and polite. The company also provided photos, documentation, and a digital receipt, which I appreciated. As a woman managing this service call, I paid attention to the tone, the timing, and the way the pricing was presented, and the experience did not feel as transparent as it should have.

I understand emergency service comes at a premium, and I have no issue paying for quality work. My concern is that once they are on site, the pricing felt very predatory. The difference between the phone quote, and the final invoice made the process feel less like transparent emergency service and more like leverage being used at the worst possible moment.

Made an appointment almost 2 weeks ahead. First what caught my eye was the 8 hrs window. Received a Confirmation email and a text message. Perfect. A few days later I received another text to confirm. I did. Day before service another text. Reminder of tomorrow service. Okay. All good. My service day comes and I got 2 more "update " text during the day and about two hours before the window ends after my whole day of waiting i received a phone call that they are having issues and more likely they will not make it and offered to reschedule. It was my first time dealing with a septic so I'm not sure what it takes, but I don't think it's that complicated. Needless to say I said I would get someone else.
I just don't have time to waste. Do not recommend

We had a sewer line back-up recently and called Tidy Tank for assistance. They responded quickly and put together a technical plan to determine where the blockage was. It turned out to be a major issue that took several days to resolve. All along the way, the plumber in charge, TJ, was completely engaged in finding the source with minimum disruption to the home. He had skills, confidence, and drive that were unlike any other. TJ and his co-workers treated our home like their own and were consistently comforting and reassuring. Everyone who owns a property needs competent plumbers whom they can trust and rely on. Tidy Tank is your source!

Great experience with Tidy Tank Septic! Brad handled my septic pumping and was incredibly helpful. Not only did he get the job done smoothly, but he also took the time to explain my whole setup and what to watch for over time. I left the visit knowing a lot more about my system and confident about when I’ll need service next. I’ll absolutely be calling them again. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a septic lift pump important?

A septic lift pump is vital because it moves wastewater from lower to higher elevations within your septic system. Without it, your system can’t properly process and treat the waste, leading to backups and potential health hazards.

On average, septic pumps can last between five to 15 years. The lifespan depends on usage, maintenance, and the quality of the pump.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and timely septic pumping, can help prevent future issues. Avoid flushing non-biodegradable items, and be mindful of what goes down your drains.

A failing lift pump can cause wastewater backups into your home or yard, foul odors, and potential health risks. It can also lead to costly repairs if not addressed in a timely manner. If you have a failing septic lift pump, turn to Tidy Tank Plumbing, Sewer, and Septic to learn more about our septic pump replacement services in McHenry County, Lake County, IL, and the surrounding communities. You can count on us to deliver reliable service.

These pumps handle sewage and require proper electrical, plumbing, and safety knowledge. Hiring an experienced plumber keeps the job compliant with codes and protects your home against future problems.

Costs vary based on the size of your system and the type of pump you need. A standard residential lift station pump replacement might range in price depending on the horsepower, gallons per minute, and materials. We’ll give you a clear, upfront estimate so you know exactly what to expect.
